Speaking engagements are one of my most favorite things in the entire world! I would love to come to your library, book club, civic organization, writing group, or classroom to speak about my experiences as a writer and author, along with giving readings from any of my books.
I also am available for book club visits, both in-person and virtual.
Along with book talks, I also present on a variety of topics and am always willing to customize a presentation for your group. From intimate writing workshops of ten participates to large presentations in front of an audience of 400, I bring with me presentations that are dynamic, personal, humorous, and informative.
Here is a brief sampling of topics I have presented on in the past:
The Art & Craft of Memoir Writing This introduction to memoir will guide aspiring writers through the genre, including answering common questions such as “What if I can’t remember everything?” and “How do I handle writing about real people?” A Q&A follows the 45-minute presentation.
The Benefits of Blogging Blogging is an excellent way to engage with your readers. This session covers the best ways to create valuable and memorable content. The presentation is a total of 60 minutes, including time for Q&A.
History of Hudson Organizations and groups in Hudson, Ohio, can learn about the history of their community, including industry, education, and how the city has changed since its founding. The presentation is 30-40 minutes with a Q&A following.
The Non-People Person's Guide to Public Speaking Also known as "How to talk to people when you don't really like people." Public speaking can be hard enough, but for those of us who are introverts and/or prefer working independently, getting up in front of an audience brings additional challenges. In this presentation, I offer tips and suggestions for making public speaking easier. Includes Q&A.
Turning Moments into Momentum: the Flash Essay In this 60 minute workshop, participants will start with a story idea from their own lives and generate a list of prompts, or “moments” to write about, then they’ll choose one or two moments to flesh out and create 120-250 word “flash essays” from. Sharing is encouraged but not required. (Small group)
My speaking fees are based on several factors such as location and number of attendees. Please email me for a quote and to check my availability.
